Chapter 15 - THREE WAILERS

Finally, something to look forward to. He had done the very first and very quickly, he needed to see his advancement. After all, he had just sent three souls to hell and those three should earn him three points, right?

Since he did not feel anything, his basic thoughts were on the fact that there was every possibility that he had to check his memory recovery sequence. Just to see how far it had come along. He tapped on the inventory and then the bottom but was met with disappointment at what he saw.

[Memory recovery sequence...5%]

What on earth was this thing playing at right now? Five percent felt almost like nothing at all and he was pissed. He would have to kill more people and right now, judging by how he was feeling at this point, Julio knew he did not care who he sent back to hell. Anyone would definitely suffice. This was when he decided to check on his latest task. There definitely had to be something, right?

He wondered as he started checking.

[Sorry, there are no tasks at the moment. New task coming up in 16 hours. ®]

Sixteen hours? Why on earth did he have to wait that long?

Well, he best starts leaving right now and waits the next boring sixteen hours. He had the notes to read and also a laptop to work with. He left through the garage, taking one last satisfying look at his handiwork. It felt really pleasing to him. Almost like he was admiring his art.

Perhaps, he should call this one something, he thought.

"Ah yes, the tears of the wailers." He muttered as he walked away to his truck.

As he left, there was someone lurking in the shadows who placed a call. The man had been scavenging for leftovers when he heard that gun bang. He decided to stay back and see what was going on. He did not really see the man's face but he could tell he was really tall and got away in a truck. He advanced closer to the garage door as soon as he thought there was no danger that would confront him and then he was stunned by what he said.

"Holy Jesus." He muttered under his breath.

There was a phone box in the yard where he made the call from.

Julio on the other hand was driving back to the motel, feeling really good but still empty. He started trying to see if he could remember anything but still, there was nothing. Maybe, he just was not settled now and he would have to get himself relaxed. There was the pesky motel manager that was trying her very best to get him to eat with her, maybe, he could ask her something.

He arrived at the motel and was really surprised that she was in her seat at the reception, almost dozing off. There was a big drool falling from her mouth and he approached her calmly. Certainly, she might have been waiting for him all along.

"Excuse me." He said to her,

She was startled and nearly banged her head on the counter but sat up, wiping her drool with the back of her hand. Something about this gesture actually made him cringe. Almost like she was disgusting at the moment.

"You're back. Ah, so...um... have you gone to your room yet?" She asked him.

"No. Why?" He asked her.

"There's actually someone here to see you. I thought that I should stay here and give you a heads up but as you can see, I slept off." She said,

Nice. She was also beginning to play informant for this crazy ass stranger she did not know anything about.

What baffled Julio was the fact that he had a visitor. Who on earth knew him to call upon him at this odd hour? Or did someone spot him?

"Okay. Thank you." He said and was about to turn away when she stopped him by stretching her hand and touching him.

"Sorry. I'm sorry. Wait, were these the clothes you were wearing earlier?" She asked him.

"I got this from my trunk. Is that all?" He asked her.

The man there has been waiting for hours. I thought you should know that he's a cop." She said,

A cop? At this odd hour? That was definitely a little bit strange but not totally out of it.

"Just one thing, was he here when they found those bodies yesterday?" He asked her.

"Yes. I think he was one of the most important. Had this arrogant look and aura but no one seemed to be trying to piss him off. Everyone just wanted to please him." She said,

Julio was already getting an idea of what this description fit the most and sure as hell it was the guy he did not really like that came into his memory.

"Thank you. I guess I owe you dinner tomorrow?" He asked her.

She smiled at him and then nodded. Without hesitation, he walked away and headed for his room. Keeping a rather calm demeanor and composure. He did not want this guy finding out that he was aware of his presence. In fact, he reached and fetched out his key to make it seem like he was going to open his door.

The door was closed and he started unlocking it. This cop wanted to give him a surprise welcome, he sure as hell was going to make it rather believable.

He opened the door and started to find the man waiting on his bed, seated.

"How did you get inside here?" He demanded.

"One question, did you ever fuck any woman here on this bed?" Detective Kelly demanded.

"No but that doesn't explain how you got in here." He responded.

"I'm Detective Kelly. We met yesterday and I got here because I got an extra key from your manager. Well, it seems she did not tell you about it. That is great. At least I got your first reaction." Detective Kelly responded.

First reaction, Julio was laughing in his head. The only reaction that the detective had was the tweaked one he put up. Otherwise, there was nothing to see there.

"So, what do you want? I already told you all that I had no idea anything happened." He responded.

"And yet, here I am." Kelly responded.

"Yet, here you are." Julio repeated as he went and set his bag on the desk.

"Nice bag. Inscription on it means love in Spanish. Where are you coming from?" Detective Kelly demanded.

"My business." Julio responded.

This guy asking him a lot of questions was not something he wanted at this point. It almost felt like smoke up his ass at this point.

"Your business? May I ask what business that is?" Detective Kelly demanded.

"I don't understand. I told you, my business. Things I do for myself." He retorted.

"The bag, I want to see what's in it." Detective Kelly said and then stood up.

He did not trust Julio one bit and right now, all he was hoping was to be prepared should the asshole try and make a run for it. He was very much prepared to fight it out with him if it got to that point and his head was already reaching for the gun behind him.

Julio was smart of course and went to the bed where he upturned the items in the bag. He had actually left the cash in his glove compartment and came inside with his notes and laptop.

Detective Kelly was surprised as he did not quite get what he wanted. He needed to do something more about this guy who was giving him the icks when his phone started ringing.

"Excuse me." He said as he turned aside the answer. "Talk."

"There's been a murder in town. Three men all tied together. Same way as our shop dude." The caller said.

"Where's the chief?" Detective Kelly asked, he wanted to say something to the man.

"Chief's got his team working on something too. Another case and I wasn't to disturb you. Only things are chaotic over here." The young officer responded.

"I'll be there shortly." Detective Kelly said and hung up. He now turned to look at Julio. "I'll be back for you. Don't keep late nights too. Street's not safe."

"Sure thing." Julio responded and then followed the detective out.

"Where are you going?" Detective Kelly asked.

"Wanted to walk you." He responded.

"I can walk by myself. Just one thing though, I will be back." Detective Kelly said and he left.

Julio then went to his room and shut the door after him. He took off his clothes and then went to lay on the bed naked. That was when he shut his eyes, and he was beginning to get random flashes.

There were voices. Lots of voices but nothing that was clear for him. His best guess was this was what five percent memory does to a person.

Suddenly, he realised that he was falling into a dark hole in his subconscious. It was the chains around him that told him where he was.

"Not again." He muttered subconsciously.
