Chapter 14 - FIRST TASK

Kelly walked out of the interrogation room feeling really pissed. He was no closer to figuring out who had committed this crime anymore than he had the previous day. At the back of his mind, he really wanted to go back to that motel and check on that guy he had seen.

"Anything?" Hanks asked him.

"How about you all stop admitting these witnesses that don't even know anything. They just come here with their cock and bull story of what they think that they saw and that's it." He said to the man.

"Well, at least they all have something in common, a description of what the man looked like. That means that very easily, you could figure out a lead or something." Hanks said to him.

"No. They're all talking about a homeless man with short hair. Tell me, what ratio of homeless men don't have short hair? I really think that I have to do something on my own." Kelly responded.

"Did you ask your girlfriend at least? Maybe her father could have an insight." Hanks suggested.

"You're not suggesting that we turn to that man for help. He's the mafia for crying out loud. He would only help his selfish desires and I have somewhere to be at." Kelly said as he started walking away.

"And where's that?" Hanks demanded.

But Kelly was already gone. Hanks was already beginning to get infuriated by the rude displays from the man but he knew deep down that he was the finest detective. He might have been the perfect one had he curbed his pride.

The witness inside walked out. It was a lady that had finished off work at night and came to assist. She looked really sad and definitely never would want to help the police again after the drilling she had been through like she was a criminal.

Hanks approached her.

"Miss Maria, I apologise for..." He started to say to her. If he was ever going to run for city mayor, he really needed people seeing him in a better light.

"Forget it. I shouldn't have been here at all. Goodnight, Sir." She said and started walking away angrily.

"Fuck! This guy is really going to ruin things for us here. The people are always scared of dealing with us." Hanks muttered.

Just then, a young female officer that was part of the teams at the phone lines approached him.

"Sir, we just received an anonymous caller who said that they saw suspicious activities at Covent bridge." She said to him,

"How suspicious?" He asked her.

"Said a man was making a turn from there and he stopped to go see what might have happened but the man drove off. When he looked into the bridge, something was sinking in." She said,

"Alright, we'll go take a look. Thomas, gather the men. We have to look at something. Georgina, did he get a look at the plate number?" He asked her.

"Not really but he did mention that it was a truck." She responded.

"Okay." Hanks responded and started walking away when Thomas approached him.

"Sir, I noticed Detective Kelly leaving, should I call him too?" He asked.

"No. He seems to have a lead on something. Let him go figure that out. He'll be briefed. Gather all the forensic team, we cannot lose anything." Hanks said as he went into his office.

Meanwhile, somewhere in a garage out in town, three men were already coming to, one after the other and Julio was waiting patiently. The first person to come to was Mandy actually and he already tried his bindings.

"Don't worry, it is secured tightly." Julio responded.

"Dude please, I haven't done anything bad to you, right? Okay, I sent you away but I'm sorry, okay?" Mandy cried.

Someone coughed. It was Jorge while Manuel who had gotten it really hot was still out cold.

"Oh no." Jorge muttered.

"Welcome to the party, boy. Now, who's going to tell me where I can find Pedro Picasso?" Julio demanded.

"Fuck me, I don't know." Mandy responded.

"Or you won't tell?" Julio demanded.

"Seriously, we don't know, okay? Nobody seems to." Jorge responded.

"But you work for him." Julio pointed out.

"Yes, we do. But we're just the lowest of the distributors. We get our instructions from someone." Mandy responded.

"And who's that someone?" He demanded.

"Sorry but I can't tell you. My life would be at risk and my family too." Mandy responded.

"Okay. Where can I find Lisa Picasso then?" Julio demanded.

"Come on, man. If I knew her place, do you think she would come here herself? I'm just running a business here." Mandy responded.

It was clear that they needed motivation and he was more than capable to show them that. He noticed that Manuel was already awake but really weak, he was going home first.

Julio approached him calmly and then said the words as he grabbed him by the neck, tilting his head so he could see his face. Somehow, he felt like he was enjoying this task now. It no longer felt like a job and he wanted to see the look on Manuel's face when he died.

It started happening, Manuel was really weak and shook violently as he whimpered while he burnt from inside out. Soon, he was a charred mass of flesh just like the others before him.

Mandy and Jorge were already panicking and crying out.

"Silence!" Julio yelled.

"What are you?" Mandy asked.

"I swear, Mandy. I shot him earlier and he did not die." Jorge responded.

"Clearly!" Mandy responded. "Listen man, if you want money, I can give you all that. But I don't know anything about their whereabouts."

"Then you leave me no choice." Julio said as he went to stand in front of him.

Mandy trembled as he shut his eyes fearfully. He suddenly felt his bladder leak out of control as he peed himself.

"Wait! I have something. I know where Lisa goes to read. I once stumbled there and I saw her." Jorge responded.

"You fool, you knew that all along and you didn't say?" Mandy demanded.

"He wanted her address!" Jorge retorted.

"Alright, that leaves the details of your supplier. You said we were only distributors, right?" Julio demanded.

Suddenly, everyone was quiet.

"Anyone going to speak?"

"What's the guarantee that if I tell you, you're not going to kill me?" Mandy demanded.

Julio smirked as he walked away from him and then started circling them. Both men's eyes were following him as he moved gradually when suddenly, he stopped in front of Jorge.

"Shit. Somebody help!" Jorge managed when suddenly, he gurgled as he was grabbed by the neck. He knew this was the end when Julio said those words he had used before he took out Manuel and then he started feeling his insides burn. He was in so much pain that he screamed out but his ordeal ended almost quickly as it had begun.

Julio smiled and then came to stand in front of Mandy.

"You're a monster." Mandy said to him.

"Tell me what I need to know." He responded.

"His name is Diaz. He comes here to drop things off himself, Okay? Maybe, if you let me, then I would stay back and catch him for you, eh?" Mandy asked him.

"How does he contact you?" Julio demanded.

Mandy's eyes went straight to a book that was to the corner but very quickly, he removed them.

"I told you, he comes here himself." Mandy responded.

But he had been too obvious because Julio had seen his body response and walked over to where the book was. He picked it up and started going through it. There were records in it and there were also a couple of numbers, one of which was Diaz Romero.

This felt like something that he could use although he would have to get himself a phone.

He came back to face Mandy.

"Alright, you win, okay? But I helped you, right? You should let me go now." Mandy said to him.

Julio smiled and started saying the words when Mandy started screaming out for help. He was clearly terrified but it was too late. This was his call and suddenly, Julio grabbed his neck and it was eventually over.

It was just him and the tied up goons who were now a bunch of tied up charred bodies.

Julio needed to get to the shop and saw a door by the garage.

It definitely was an entrance and he went in through it as he started searching the place. He found the inner office where there were laptops, notes and money. There he grabbed and put in a bag he saw there. That was when he noticed that his clothes had blood stains and he needed to get a change. There was none in the office, and he would have to find a place.

But then as he wanted to turn away, Demona came on.

[Congratulations, Julio. You have successfully completed your first task]
