Outside, the moon rose full and bright. I could feel its pull in my blood, waking the part of me I'd kept dormant for so long. The part of me that wasn't human or dog, but something the world had forgotten.
"The binding is breaking," I explained. "That's why her transformation started. That's why Luther is hunting her. That's why Dorian wants her."
"And you're just going to leave?" Charles stepped closer, hurt and anger in every line of his face. "After everything we've been through?"
The weight of my secrets pressed down on me. How could I make him understand? I'd never meant to fall in love with him. Never meant to stay so long in this world of dogs and men. But I had, and now everyone I loved would pay the price.
"I'm going to her," I said. "I'm the only one who can help her now."
"Then I'm coming with you," Charles declared.
I shook my head. "No. Luther's hunters are watching you. If you leave, they'll follow."
