Aurora pushed the door open, stepping inside her house with the weight of exhaustion pressing down on her shoulders. The day had been long—too long—and all she wanted was to hold her daughter, to remind herself why she was doing all of this.
The soft glow of the television flickered through the living room, casting shadows over the couch.
And there they were.
Seraphina, curled up with her tiny arms tucked against Tim's side, her little face turned toward the screen. But it wasn't her daughter that made Aurora's breath catch.
It was Tim.
He wasn't watching the movie.
He was watching Seraphina, his gaze soft, almost vulnerable, as if he were memorizing every tiny detail of her, the rise and fall of her breathing, and the way her lashes fluttered as sleep crept in.
Aurora swallowed hard.
The moment she stepped fully into the room, Tim's head snapped up. His shoulders, once tensed, slumped slightly.
