Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Book of this world

The rest of the news about the outside world was not as astonishing as the murder of the Pirate King. However, it was still quite interesting, especially for Lon, who was planning to return to his past world.

The news covered a variety of topics, from politics and relations between different states to large-scale wars and their consequences. One page could discuss friendly relations between countries, while the next would detail their losses after a war. In general, the daily news from the outside world was simply overwhelming.

But that was what made it so fascinating.

Reading about a "constantly changing world" was truly engaging and, in some ways, helped improve one's understanding of it. And for Lon, this was extremely important.

Knowing about the culture, customs, and language of another state was a crucial task for any traveler — especially for someone like Renvel.

Fortunately, Renvel had understood this as well. He hadn't just sat around dreaming about his goal but had put in great effort and devised various ways to achieve it.

With his modern way of thinking and Renvel's knowledge, Lon was confident that he would have the opportunity to enter the outside world. And in fact, all these news articles he was reading now could truly help him.

«I'm sure of that.» — Lon smirked.

After setting the newspaper aside, Lon found himself unsure of what to do.

He had finished his breakfast, read the entire daily newspaper, and while it contained some interesting reports, none of them truly captivated him.

He also had no scheduled meetings with anyone today. The only thing left for him — was books.

The books Santi had brought from the library were quite good, especially when it came to local literature.

They were well-written — with beautiful prose, engaging plots, and deep characters... Everything was crafted in the finest style.

Moreover, the literary taste of this world was unique. Every story carried a distinct touch that made it memorable. It didn't matter whether the author was a novice or a master — even some beginner's stories could compete with the greatest works of this world.

It was a very unusual phenomenon.

Lon couldn't say for sure why this was the case, but he had a few theories.

The first thing that came to mind was literacy promotion.

In the Black and Yellow districts of Seon, thousands of families were illiterate and uneducated. To address this issue, the Public Structure — one of the Five Structures responsible for relations between districts, social classes, and their development — had popularized books to combat illiteracy. That was why the writing style was so easy to read, and why the stories were so captivating, making people want to read them to the end.

But the strange thing was that not every author wrote specifically for Seon — there were also outstanding books from abroad.

Regardless of the situation, this explanation seemed the most plausible. Perhaps literacy improvement wasn't exclusive to Seon — maybe even in Ronland, they had similar efforts.

The second reason Lon could think of was historical connections.

He wasn't entirely sure about this theory, as he didn't know the full history of this world, but he was convinced it played a role.

The historical connections Lon had in mind suggested that something had happened in the past that led to literature in this world being of such high quality. He didn't know what exactly, but it must have been something significant.

This explanation also seemed plausible — perhaps even more than the previous one. But since Lon lacked knowledge of the world's history, he couldn't say for certain whether it was correct or not.

Shaking his head, Lon picked up a book titled "Journeys Across the Deep Skies of the Seas."

This book was written by his favorite author — Redmund Lyuens, a free-spirited man who loved freedom deeply and expressed it in every one of his works.

Lon knew a little about this man but respected him greatly, as the ideas and themes explored in his books were inspiring — not just for him, but for many others as well.

Renvel had also been a devoted fan of Redmund and his books. Through them, he never gave up and continued to believe that one day, he would truly become a free man and fulfill his dream — just like the heroes of the stories.

As for Lon, he simply wanted to meet Redmund — to get to know him and understand what kind of person he was, considering he could write such books.

Unfortunately, Redmund was a member of the Celestial Organization, which was located in the Northern region. And at the moment, Lon had no way to meet him.

«How unfortunate...» — Lon sighed, then opened the first page and began to read.
