"Ha… Ha… Where is Uncle Levin? Did he get captured by the enemy already?" Mira panted heavily as she tried to escape from the enemy who suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
She didn't know how things went south so quickly like this. One moment she was enjoying the warm sleeping bag inside the tent, and right when she woke up and tried to check Levin, he was gone already as if he had never been there before.
Oh, she didn't think even for a single second that the man would betray her and run away just like that. Not only because she was good at judging a character and never thought that Levin would be that kind of a man, but the soldier's bag and even his laser gun were still on the tree next to the tent. That at least told her that Levin didn't go willingly and should've met an enemy here.
Her guess was proven to be true as in the next second, someone shot a beam of laser right into her direction. That was a really close call. If only she reacted one second too late, she would've been left from the world already.
Right after that, the hide-and-seek game suddenly started. Mira had to run away as quickly and as quietly as she could, trying to escape while also figuring out where was the enemy. Unfortunately, as a ten-year-old girl with no experience in fighting, it was hard for her to do so. She felt like a rabbit being chased by a hungry fox, trapped in the middle of the forest. This was probably the worst-case scenario she thought before she met Levin who gave her a sense of protection.
As she was hiding behind a pretty tall tree, she tried her best to calm down her nerves. However, even in the stillness of the night where all the sound she could hear was probably her own heartbeat, she could still feel her whole body was tense.
'Is it finally over?' She asked herself. 'Do they finally lose me?'
After about five minutes without any action, Mira tried to be brave and stepped out of her hidden spot. However, just right when she peeked out of the tree, a beam of laser came again, flashing through her eyes at a high speed.
BAM!
"Kyah!" She yelped, getting completely caught off guard by the attack. Fortunately, she reacted quickly enough, swinging her wooden staff around in a circle and forming a simple shield to deflect the laser. She jumped back to her hiding spot once again, not daring to expose herself in an open position.
"HAHAHA! I DIDN'T EXPECT THAT I WOULD FIND A CHILD HERE, BUT I WOULDN'T REFUSE AN EASY TARGET!" Suddenly, a voice boomed out of nowhere, making her wince as it hurt her eardrums. He knew that it should be from the enemy and tried her best to locate him, but unfortunately, the voice echoed from all directions, making it hard to detect its source. "HAHAHA! DON'T WORRY, I WILL ENJOY THIS LITTLE GAME AND SAVOR EVERY MOMENT OF IT!"
Mira could feel a shiver down her spine at how creepy the enemy was. She didn't want to imagine what would happen if she was getting captured by him. However, she needed to find a way out of this situation first if she wanted to avoid the worst situation, and before that, she also needed to figure out how to deal with the laser beam from the enemy.
'Why is it that his laser is so similar to Uncle Levin's weapon?' She thought inwardly. 'Does he come from the same world?'
However, she dismissed the idea pretty quickly. Although she had just gotten to know Levin one afternoon and the man hadn't talked a lot about his world, she knew that the weapon was strictly regulated and only those who were coming from the military could access the same type of weapon. As for the enemy she faced right now, the fact that he revealed his voice when he realized the enemy he faced was just a little girl and how cocky he was as if he just won this fight even without trying, coupled with how he toyed her like this, every behavior of her enemy screamed that he was not a soldier just like Levin.
But that still left the question in mystery. How did the enemy have access to the same weapon?
Unfortunately, that was a question for another time, as right now, she had to try her best to keep herself alive. Now that she had already revealed her position, The bright beams of light began shooting at her from all around, trapping her in a bad spot where she had no way to escape.
As she was protecting herself, Mira also tried her best to remember what she learned during her time with the other priest, thinking of a way to get out of this situation. Unfortunately, while priest was a versatile profession, it wasn't built for a fight like this. A priest's role was always on the back line, giving support and healing the fighter constantly with their blessing. Now that she had to fight a terrifying opponent that she couldn't even figure out where he was, she had no idea how to deal with this situation.
True enough, in the next few seconds, as she started to get exhausted, the laser finally met its target.
BAM!
"Urgh!" Mira kneeled down as the laser pierced her left thigh. She felt a burning pain in that area, and she didn't even dare to look at the wound directly. She sweated a lot just from one shot, and the pain was so great that she was about to faint.
"Hahaha! This is so great!" The enemy's laughter boomed from all directions once again, showing his psychopathic side. "I can even kill a little girl and get rewarded for it! This game is the greatest thing that I have ever experienced in my life!"
Right after that, the laser beam kept coming, and she couldn't even move to avoid it or create another shield to deflect it.
Shoulder.
Right tight.
Stomach.
Right arm.
Left arm.
The enemy kept shooting him the laser beam in the non-vital area to keep her alive. However, with so much blood that she lost, it was clear that she was already in front of the death door. Even a psychopath like him would lose interest when his prey was in such a terrible condition already.
"Tch. It seems that the new toy is not that durable." In her last breath, she could hear the enemy clicking his tongue in annoyance. "What a pity… But there should be more toys to explore in this world, right? Hahaha… What a great game!"
As the enemy pointed the weapon that was somehow so familiar with Levin's laser gun, Mira closed her eyes tightly, praying that the pain would be over. She knew this would be her last moment in the world, and she just wanted it to be quick.
However, right when the gun was shining brightly as it was about to shoot the laser gun, she could hear a faint, gentle voice from Levin that said, "Wake up, Mira. This is not real."
And right after that, the laser was launched, creating an explosion that destroyed the forest instantly.
