Chapter 28: Awkward Dinner
Dinner was unusually quiet.
For the first time since they had met, there was no bickering, no sarcastic remarks—just an awkward silence that stretched between them like an invisible wall.
Raphael sat across from Ines, casually poking at his steak, while she slowly chewed her food, keeping her eyes anywhere but on him.
Emilia had been observing them for a while now.
She had seen awkward couples before, but this? This was unbearable.
"You two look like two kids forced to sit next to each other in class," Emilia remarked, setting down another plate on the table.
"Did I miss something? A lovers' quarrel? A tragic misunderstanding?"
Raphael cleared his throat and stabbed his fork into his food. "We're just eating."
"Exactly. Just eating," Ines echoed, nodding rapidly.
Emilia smirked. "Right. So why does it feel like I could cut the tension with a knife?"
Raphael shifted in his seat. Ines suddenly found her glass of water very interesting.
