As they stood face to face with the rival pack's alpha, Anna could feel the tension in the air. The alpha's eyes seemed to bore into her soul, and she could sense the anger and hostility emanating from him.
"You fools," the alpha spat, his voice dripping with venom. "You think you can just waltz in here and steal one of my pack members?"
Anna stood tall, refusing to back down. "James is not a prisoner," she said, her voice firm. "He's free to make his own choices."
The alpha sneered. "You really are naive, aren't you?" he said. "James is mine now. And you're not going to take him away from me."
Georgia stepped forward, her eyes flashing with anger. "We're not going to let you bully us," she said. "James is our friend, and we're going to protect him."
The alpha laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "You think you can protect him?" he said. "I'll crush you like the insignificant insects you are."
Anna felt a surge of fear, but she refused to back down. She knew that she and Georgia had to stand up to the alpha, no matter what.
Just as it seemed like the alpha was about to attack, a loud growl echoed through the corridor. The alpha's head snapped up, and he snarled, baring his teeth.
Anna followed his gaze, and her heart skipped a beat as she saw a massive wolf emerging from the shadows. The wolf's eyes were fixed on the alpha, and Anna could sense the power and authority emanating from him.
The alpha took a step back, his eyes darting nervously between the wolf and Anna. For a moment, Anna thought she saw a glimmer of fear in his eyes.
But then, his expression hardened, and he snarled, baring his teeth. "You think a little wolf like you can intimidate me?" he said.
The wolf didn't flinch, its eyes fixed on the alpha. Anna could sense the tension building, and she knew that something was about to happen.
And then, in a flash of fur and teeth, the wolf attacked. Anna watched in awe as the wolf took down the alpha, its movements swift and deadly.
As the alpha lay defeated on the ground, the wolf turned to Anna and Georgia. For a moment, Anna thought she saw a glimmer of recognition in its eyes.
And then, in a voice that was almost human, the wolf spoke. "You're safe now," it said. "The alpha won't bother you again."
Anna's eyes widened in shock as she stared at the wolf. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"Who are you?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
The wolf smiled, its eyes glinting with amusement. "My name is Lucas," it said. "And I'm here to help you."
As Anna stared at Lucas in shock, she couldn't help but wonder what other secrets he might be hiding. And what did he mean by "help"?
But before she could ask any questions, Lucas turned and disappeared into the shadows, leaving Anna and Georgia alone once again.
As they stood there, trying to process what had just happened, Anna couldn't shake the feeling that their adventure was far from over. In fact, it was only just beginning.
