Chapter 17 - The Hunters Game

I wanted to argue but knew it was useless. Seraphina had always been stubborn—it was one of the things I loved about her.

 Ten minutes later, we were running through the forest. My old pack territory was half a day's trip away. If we pushed hard, we might make it in time.

 As we ran, my mind went back to the night everything changed.

 Eighteen years ago

 The storm was roaring as Celeste appeared at our door, a bundle in her arms.

 "They're hunting me," she said, soaked to the bone and frightened. "The Shadow Council knows about the prophecy."

 I pulled her inside while Seraphina took the baby. The child was tiny, just days old, with a small scar shaped like a crescent moon on her shoulder.

 "Is this...?" I started to ask.

 "My daughter," Celeste stated. "The child of the prophecy."

 The baby opened her eyes, and I gasped. Even as a baby, her eyes held power—shifting between deep brown and bright gold.

 "Half witch, half wolf," Seraphina whispered in awe.
