Chapter 4 - Wild bird

Wei was lying on the grass, gasping. After killing seven level 9 giant rhinos, he was already exhausted. Above his chest, a screen appeared showing the remaining potions he had.

Wei tapped the healing potion, and gradually his health points were restored, and his wounds healed. Wei stood up and checked how much gold he had earned.

Wei got excited when he saw that he had just reached level 18 and saw how much gold he had earned. "Woah! I'm now level 18, and I received 530 gold points! I'm already rich! But only if I had these gold coins with me in the human world." His excitement quickly shifted to sadness.

"But not a problem. All I have to do is keep winning battles and surviving. I'll earn enough gold to leave this world!" Wei said, burning with renewed motivation. Wei remembered that one of the items he had gotten from Roxanne was a teleportation scroll. A screen appeared in front of him showing all the items he had.

"I wonder how Birigan City looks?" Wei thought. He tapped on the teleportation scroll on the screen. A circular line of light appeared on the ground where he stood, and then a bright light began emitting from inside the circle, making Wei disappear. Wei appeared in a plaza filled with various stalls. At each stall, humanoid beings were selling food, clothes, weapons, and more.

"I wonder if there's anyone here who changes gold points into real gold coins. I know it's too early for that, but I just want to touch some real gold coins. I've never experienced holding a lot of money in my whole life."

Wei strolled around the plaza, admiring all the different things on sale. He stopped at a stall that sold weapons and armor because he saw a beautiful longsword lying on a table next to other swords and daggers. Wei looked at the price tag, which showed 1200 gold points.

"Hey, mister, can I check this sword?" Wei asked the old elf midget who owned the store.

"Go ahead, son," the old elf smiled.

Wei grabbed the sword, and a screen appeared beside the blade.

"Woah! What a sword!" Wei exclaimed. "Sir, can you reserve this sword for me? Right now I only have around four hundred gold points, but later on, I'll have more after I kill some monsters."

The old elf laughed. "Hahaha! Sorry, kid, we don't do that here. Just come back when you've got enough gold."

"Oh, okay. I knew that was a silly thing to ask. But anyway, sir, do you know anyone here who exchanges gold points for gold coins?

"This is a marketplace; almost anyone here can trade gold points," the old elf replied.

"Oh, great! Can you please take my gold points and trade them for gold coins?" Wei asked eagerly.

"Sure, but I'll charge you a fee. Is that okay with you?" the elf said.

"Yeah, that's fine," Wei replied, feeling both excited and happy.

Wei transferred his gold points to the old elf's Birigan account, and the old elf took gold coins from his bag, pouring them into a gold counter machine. The machine counted all the gold coins, and after it finished, the old elf gathered them and placed them into a medium-sized bag before handing it to Wei. Wei opened the bag and placed some gold coins in his palm, looking at them with awe.

"Wow! So this is how it feels to have a lot of money in your hands," Wei said, his eyes filled with greed as he stared at the gold coins.

The old elf looked confused at Wei's reaction. "Is this the first time you've had this amount of money? I mean, you're a soldier, right? I assumed you're not a novice, so you must be earning a lot of gold from killing monsters, am I right?"

Wei placed the gold coins back in the bag, then immediately stored it in his stash by absorbing it with his hands.

"Uhh, actually, this is my first time here in Birigan. I'm from the human world. Did you notice my ears?" Wei chuckled. "But kidding aside, yes, this is the first time I've touched this much money. Back in the human world, I wasn't earning gold because there are no monsters to kill. What I do to level up is train by fighting water creatures I create using my magic skill."

"Really? This is your first time in Birigan? And back in your world, you create creatures to fight and level up? Wow, that's an amazing skill! But what made you decide to come here to Birigan?"

The old elf sounded intrigued but confused.

"Well, it's the gold, of course. Once I earn enough gold coins, I'll take them back to the human world and live a filthy rich life! But I guess that's still a long way for me to go. The teleportation portal costs like a million gold coins, or so I remember my mom telling me," Wei explained.

"You still plan to go back to the human world? Aren't you affiliated with the military? What's your current rank, anyway? Are you some kind of secret agent or something?" the old elf asked.

"No, no, no, I'm just a normal swordsman, and I'm not in the military," Wei said.

The old elf was surprised. "Oh boy! Seriously? I thought you were a Fenix military soldier. How the hell did you get here? Do you know it's against Birigan law to develop magic skills and level up if you're not in the military?"

"Really? Well, I didn't know anything about that," Wei replied.

"Then who exactly brought you here?" The old elf grew even more curious.

"Well, it's a long story, but my father is originally from Birigan. He left some items to my mother, and the teleportation scroll is one of them," Wei explained.

"Okay, I think I don't want to hear your whole story, but I suggest you take care of yourself. If the police or military find you, you'll definitely get arrested. And by the way, if you earn enough gold points, you might want to come back to me. I can offer you a teleportation scroll back to your world for only one hundred thousand gold points. Good deal, huh?"

Wei was delighted with the old elf's offer. "Woah! Really?! That'll make it easier and quicker for me to get back to my world! You know what? I'll leave now. I better get going and earn more gold. See ya!"

Right as Wei was about to leave, the old elf grabbed his right arm.

"Just remember this: don't tell anyone about the teleportation scroll I'm selling you. This is a secret between us, okay?" The old elf's face became serious, and he spoke with a tone that seemed like a threat.

"All right." Wei felt a little odd with the way the old elf acted. He turned his back on the old elf and started walking away from the stall. "Is that guy for real? Why did he tell me that? But anyway, I'll soon find out."

Wei swiped his hand in the air, and a screen appeared.

Wei tapped the screen to activate the teleportation spell. A bright light emitted from the ground where he stood, allowing him to vanish.

Immediately, Wei was teleported to the green, grassy land outside Fenix City.

"Wow! Look at that, there are so many strawberries in the grass. I should have eaten in the city before I left, but I think these strawberries will do just fine for me."

Wei hurried over to the grass and started picking and eating the wild strawberries.

"Hmmm, this is good!" Wei said, happily munching on strawberries.

One after another, Wei continued to pick strawberries and eat them. He kept this up for almost half an hour.

"Ahhh! I need to drink something." Wei swipe on the air.

Wei tapped on a mana potion, and instantly the mana bottle appeared in his hand. He removed the cap and drank the potion.

"Gulp, gulp, gulp, gulp. Ahhhhhhhh, this is so good," Wei said, feeling so refreshed after drinking the mana potion.

Not too far from where Wei was standing, he noticed an ostrich-like bird pecking at the ground. "Is that a monster I can kill to earn gold? I think it is!"

Wei activated his dash skill and sprinted towards the bir
