Chapter 29– A Father's Betrayal

For the best?
The words felt like a knife twisting in my chest.
I let out a shaky breath, my vision blurring. My own father… the man who was supposed to protect me, to stand by me… had already decided my fate.
And I had never felt more alone in my life.
I swallowed hard, trying to push down the lump in my throat. This was it. This was what I had been waiting for. The confirmation that deep down, I had always been nothing more than a bargaining chip to him.
I let out a bitter laugh. "Ohh… so this is it." My voice was sharp, cutting through the tense air between us. I looked my father dead in the eyes, my gaze burning with unshed tears. "This is what I was waiting for you to say, Dad." I spat the word like it was poison on my tongue. Then I tilted my head, my lips curling into a cruel smirk. "Or should I just call you stranger?"
His expression faltered. He opened his mouth to speak, but I didn't let him.
