Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1

SASHA'S POV.

I'M A KILLER.

A murderer, if you must. And no, I don't regret it.

Before you start clutching your pearls, let me clarify: I don't kill the innocent. I'm not that cruel. Every life I've taken was far from innocent. They were the kind of monsters your nightmares wouldn't dare summon. Sending them to hell was my duty—a sacred promise I made to my father at his grave fourteen years ago.

I stood over the lifeless man lying in his pool of blood, watching as he took his final, shallow breath. A smile tugged at my lips—not of joy, but of vindication. I'd kept my word, fulfilled the vow I whispered when I was just a broken little girl.

When I was just eight years old, I witnessed the slaughter of my entire family through the tiny holes of a closet where I had hidden. I was playing hide and seek with my younger brother when those bad men came to our house. Before that incident, I had never seen p my father so vulnerable, he was crying and pleading to them to spare his family's life and would give all his possessions to them, but instead, they tricked him, collecting the magical blue orb which had been in my family's possession for centuries and ruthlessly took the lives of every member, believing it would prevent us from ever seeking it again.

But they made a grave mistake.

Because that terrified little girl grew into a woman—a woman who hunted each of them down, one by one, ensuring they paid the ultimate price for their sins.

I kicked the lifeless body before walking away from the crime scene.

The unusually bright moon tonight caught my attention. For many, it might not hold much significance, but for my late mom, it meant everything. She was a devoted worshipper and admirer of the moon, Seeing it shining so brightly tonight would have meant the world to her.

She always mentioned that when the moon shines very bright, it means something eventful is about to happen, usually a good sign. But I no longer believe in the moon. If the moon goddess always guides and protects her children, where was she when my mom, who was a firm believer and worshipper, called on her to save us? She was deaf and did not appear when my mom needed her the most.

I opened the door of my apartment and found it unlocked.

"Olivia?" I called out to my roommate. "I told you to always lock the door," I scolded, but there was no answer. Worried, I checked her bedroom, but she was not there. I was about to panic when I saw a small note on the dining table.

"Staying at my boyfriend's. See you tomorrow. Love, Olivia."

That silly girl, I can't understand why she remains with her crazy boyfriend who treats her poorly and exploits her financially. I shake my head, but anyway, her choices are not mine to judge

I went into the shower to have a quick hot steaming bath. I needed to feel something. I had believed that after ending the lives of those responsible, I would be happy, but instead, all I felt was indifference. Am I the devil now?

I was about to use my shampoo when I felt a strange energy in my house. Olivia's energy was always sweet and happier but this felt different, almost unreadable.I wrapped a towel around myself and stepped cautiously into the living room.

"Hey, sweetheart," a deep voice drawled from the shadows. "Sorry for breaking in unannounced."

I turned to see a tall, dark-haired man lounging at my table, casually eating my birthday chocolates.

The audacity.

"Excuse me," I said, my voice sharp, "but why the hell are you eating my food?"

"Oh, these Nustal chocolates?" he said with an infuriatingly smug grin. "They are my favorite. Couldn't resist."

"Couldn't resist?" I raised an eyebrow. "This isn't a charity, and you are not welcome here. Get out."

He popped the last piece into his mouth, stood, and sauntered toward me like he owned the place.

"If you take one more step," I warned, "I will make sure you regret it."

He stopped, smirking. "Fine, fine. I just came to say happy birthday to my mate."

"Mate?" I scoffed. "You rejected me a month ago, remember?"

"That was a misunderstanding," he said, his tone suddenly serious. "Besides, we never completed the rejection ritual."

"Well, as far as I'm concerned, you and your brothers are no longer my mates," I shot back, crossing my arms. "You didn't want me then, so don't act like you care now."

His smirk returned. "I want you to come stay at the pack house."

I blinked. "I'm sorry, what?"

"There have been… incidents. Unusual deaths in the pack. Until we figure out who's behind it, I want you safe."

I stared at him, unimpressed. "Are you out of your damn mind?"

"Honey," he said, leaning in closer, "you are all my mind can think of."

I rolled my eyes so hard they practically rattled in my skull.

"Don't play noble with me, Noah," I snapped. "You are only here because you want something."

His expression softened as he took another step forward, reaching out to tilt my chin.

"Look at me," he murmured.

Against my better judgment, I did. His dark eyes locked onto mine, and for a moment, the tension in the room shifted.

"I never hated you," he said softly, his voice deep and gravelly. "Not your blue eyes, not your fiery spirit." His thumb brushed against my lower lip. "And definitely not these lips."

He leaned in closer, his breath hot against my skin.

And that's when I panicked.

My knee shot up, connecting squarely with his groin.

"FUCK!" he bellowed, doubling over and grabbing his… well, you know.

"FUCK! WHAT THE HELL, SASHA?" he yelled, falling to the ground in pain. "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, STUPID?"

"I'm sorry," I apologised.

"Sorry doesn't fix anything, Sasha," Noah sneered. "YOU ARE GOING TO PAY FOR THIS."

Classic Noah, always throwing a tantrum when things don't go his way.
