Chapter 26 - The Devil's Amusement
Selene ~~
I swallowed hard.
The Moon Goddess must have been on my side tonight because I didn't even want to think about what Damien would have done if Killian hadn't shown up when he did.
I stole a glance at Damien.
His whole body was tense, his jaw clenched so tight it looked like it might crack. His fists were shaking at his sides, but he didn't move, didn't say anything.
He couldn't.
Because no matter how much Damien liked to act like the most important person in the room, he wasn't. Not compared to Killian.
Killian extended his hand toward me, his eyes steady.
"May we, my lady?"
For a brief moment, I hesitated.
I didn't want to follow him. Not really.
But right now, it was like choosing between two devils.
And if I had to pick?
Killian was the better devil.
At least, with him, I didn't feel like I was about to suffocate.
