I woke up feeling like I'd barely slept. My mind had been tossing and turning all night, replaying the random encounter with Calvin and Mily at the cinema. The way he'd looked at me, like he'd wanted to say something but hadn't, had been on my mind. And Mily? Her new warmth was too perfect, too rehearsed, it made my skin crawl.
But the kicker? I hadn't hated the night. I'd even had fun, tension, and all. That alone annoyed me. I needed my mind to understand that I was still worried about my safety around these people and not enjoy their presence.
I dragged myself out of bed, showered, and dressed for work, opting for a simple black blouse and gray pencil skirt. No need to think too much today. I'd bury myself in work, avoid unnecessary drama, and pretend last night didn't happen. Or so I thought.
As I entered the lobby of NovaTech, a familiar figure stood by the elevators.
Calvin. Of course.
